Conscious and Ethical Capitalism: Alternative and Innovative business models that work
I am a long-term Tablelands resident. Currently, I operate a catering business and mobile food van.
Over the years, however, I have worked in numerous fields including Education, Community Services, Arts and Drama, Agriculture, Small Business and Retail.
I have also travelled throughout Australia and overseas.
I am aware that there is a huge need for all businesses to be socially and environmentally responsible.
If we don’t do it, who will? We cannot rely on the corporate entities to take care of us or our planet.
So, having been away from the Tablelands for several years, I have returned with the aim of contributing to the region’s environmental and social enterprises.
My previous business (founded in 2008) was a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program based in Atherton.
We grew mixed vegetables using biodynamic growing practices, and distributed the produce amongst our “members”.
These people included small businesses/cafes, families, couples and individuals who paid us a seasonal “Subscription”.
In return for this financial security, we provided them with a box of mixed, seasonal produce every week, along with a newsletter, recipes and the occasional gift.
It is this business model that will form the foundation and case study for this Lunch and Learn.
