Hi, I’m Seamus Campbell from Startup & Innovation Tablelands. And I’ve got today with me Rene Dembowski. She’s the founder of Social Butterfly Marketing. She’s a qualified trainer with a Dip Ed of social media marketing, and Queensland ambassador to the Social Media Marketing Institute. She’s coming to the Tablelands to run a workshop just for us. A free workshop, I might add, on November the 19th, Friday, from 10am to 2:30pm. It will be held as a hybrid event at the Tablelands Business Hub as well as on zoom. So you can choose whether you are again in person or via Zoom. So without Reneefurther ado, I’ll hand over to Renee. And I’ll just ask one quick question. Renee, what can you tell us about your upcoming workshop?
Renee Dembowski 0:59
Hi, Seamus. So the workshop that we’re going to be running together is Facebook for Business are you set up right? Now this one here actually relates to both Facebook and Instagram. A little while ago, Facebook purchased Instagram. And so what they’re doing is they’re making it much easier for businesses to manage both platforms from the one place. So business manager is almost like a suitcase if I was going to visualise it that holds all of your Facebook and Instagram assets in one place. And it’s really important that that suitcase is set up properly. If it’s not set up properly, then it can have implications down the track, especially if you’re looking to maybe sell one day. So we want to make sure that set up properly. And that’s what we’re going to be learning about in this session. So what are the implications of not being set up properly? What’s the difference between Facebook business manager, and business suite and pages, we’ll also get a better understanding of the structure of Facebook with regards to groups pages, suites, business managers, ad accounts, we’ll talk about a pixel code, and why it’s important for businesses to have that installed on their website. And also authenticating your website, your domain with Facebook and why that’s important. We’ll work through all of these things together, because it can be quite confusing and daunting when you’re not working with it every single day. So that’s the first one. The second workshop we’re going to be doing is Google My Business. And we’re going to look at why we what is Google My Business, why it’s important that every business has one, especially bricks and mortar businesses. However, it is also important for businesses that might work in a virtual space. So where they might deliver services to their clients and clients might not come to a physical address. We’ll also look at how to make sure that you’re set up right, and how different industries will have different settings within their Google My Business listing. And a lot of people don’t realise that you can and should be posting to your Google My Business listing regularly like you would with Facebook or Instagram or LinkedIn.

So what can attendees expect to walk out with after they finish this workshop, so this is going to be 10 o’clock to 2:30 pm. So it’s going to be fairly full on a lot of stuff to go through. What can I expect to walk out with at the end of it.
Renee Dembowski 3:41
At the end, you can expect to walk out with your Facebook business manager completely set up properly. And you can expect to make sure that you’re secure. So we’ll make sure that you’ve got all of the security precautions in place. Because there has been a lot of hacking. And I have I’ve actually had a client not too long ago who had $6,000 spent on the ad account by hackers. So yeah, and I can explain that why they do that and give some examples. So we’ll make sure that all of that secure locked away and you’ve got a nice neat account set up. You can also expect to have the same for your Google My Business listing; set up everything all the information fleshed out, ready to go and understanding how to manage it.
Seamus 4:28
Fantastic. Not that I think Facebook is ever neat always looks like a horrible mess to me, but I’m hoping to learn how to do better at it. And what do we need them to bring to the workshop? They can’t they can’t just walk in with a notepad. Well, they can but it’s not good. They’re not going to get the value. If they do that. So can you tell us what you would like them to bring to the workshop?
Renee Dembowski 4:53
Sure. So I would really like it if they could bring a laptop people often bring iPads which do not work in the same way. Desktop works qn iPad, essentially is a big mobile phone. So it works from apps. Now apps, it’s not practical to be managing a business for social media marketing from an app. So it will look very different to the dashboard that we’re working from, you can get around it. So if that’s your only option, that’s okay. But just be prepared that it is going to be slightly different to what we’re working with. But we’ll work with it. So yeah, it’s a hands on workshop. Of course, you can take notes, and go away and implement that yourself. But I do find that most people need to be able to ask questions as they’re working through. Yeah.
Seamus 5:47
And Facebook’s not easy is it, it’s still sort of convoluted in what you’ve got to do.
Renee Dembowski 5:54
One little thing that is if you might have an unexpected issue, then that’s where you get stuck. And it’s very hard to move forward, then from there without having someone who can help you work through that issue together. Yeah. So it’ll be going that.
Seamus 6:09
Okay, and they need to prepare to be able to get into there. You haven’t got a Facebook pixel into the backend of the website to access to their cPanel and things like that, is that correct?
Renee Dembowski 6:21
Well, yes. So what we will do is, you don’t need to worry about having your pixel ready, we will create that together. But what would be ideal, and again, if you don’t have this, it’s not the end of the world, you just might need to get some support after the workshop from your web developer, or, Seamus, you’ve got quite a bit of experience with all that. So I’m sure you can reach out to Seamus. So definitely access to your personal Facebook account, make sure you know all of your passwords, because that can take a lot of time. If people come they go, Oh, I don’t know. Even though your computer might automatically login to your Facebook or your Instagram, when we do our connecting, we need to physically be putting our password in, we need to know what it is cleaning, because that’s just the way it goes. That’s why it works. So know your password to your Instagram account, your Google account, preferably the one that is connected to your Google My Business listing, if you don’t know, if you have access to your Google My Business listing, we can I can show you how to find that out. And we can work through that process. We need to if you can get login access to your cPanel. So that your domain whoever your domain is registered through the back end of that. And also, if you manage your website yourself, if you update it, make small changes. Just if you can make sure you’ve got the login details for that. And if you don’t, that’s okay, because we can still work through what we’re doing. And we’ll just have to send the final little piece of instruction through to your web developer, if that’s how you want to do it as well.
Seamus 8:03
And if that sounds too daunting, please anyone just give me a ring (0410 609 267). And we’ll talk through it prior to the workshop so that you’re ready, because we don’t waste anyone’s time. There’s a whole lot of stuff we’ve got to go through. Yeah. So yeah, thank you very much, Renee, that looks like a really interesting workshop and really valuable to small businesses. As I said, Friday the 19th 10am to 2:30pm. You can attend either at the Tablelands Business Hub, 49 – 57 Loder Street Atherton, or you can attend via zoom. And we’ll be quite inclusive of our Zoom viewers. We’re quite good at that. So don’t feel left out if you want to do it by Zoom. And if you register and you can’t make it, we will, we’ll make it we’ll have the Zoom recording. And we’ll send you a recording as well. But it’s far more valuable to you if you do attend.
Renee Dembowski 8:55
Oh, actually one more thing, Seamus, I did get to mention I’ll also give everyone a checklist that they can work from as well.
Seamus 9:00
Ah, brilliant. Yeah, that’s fantastic. Thank you. All right. Well, thank you very much for that.
Renee Dembowski 9:08
Yeah. Thanks for having me. I’m looking forward to it. Oh, it’s a beautiful drive to the Tablelands.
