I’ll start with an insightful quote from this article
You may not know it, but your company is in the technology business. All businesses today are, as they rely on technology for everyday operations. That applies to everything from startups to growing companies and major enterprises.Steve Solomon
How cool is that! We are all in the tech business! So if we are all in the tech business, why not move toward adopting transformative technology as part of your suite of technological solutions? IT does not have to end at your Microsoft subscription!
My conclusion is exactly that: we must look closely at the disruption, even destruction, wrought by plunging, rather cluelessly, into tech in the last 2 or 3 decades. I have the feeling we took that dive without ensuring that we knew how to swim first! That dive was preceded by some pretty hopeful fantasies of the benefits of IT and AI but not enough imagination about the potential downside risks of our headlong dive. Be that as it may, the IT tsunami rolls on.
My belief is that we must adopt the best of technology which might help us thread back together in a new and more positive way, the social tapestry which started to unravel badly as that IT tsunami swept all before it.
Is Trans Tech Global going to be part of a movement to eke the best of humanity out of more use of technology? Or will it degenerate into further social dislocation, concentration of power and money, and further loss of some of our previously most cohesive values?
That’s up to us collectively. But let’s make a start individually in our small community where we can perhaps find new resources in our adoption of transformative tech. Where might they sit?
TT focuses on human thriving. The previous tech revolution focused on productivity and changed the definition of success but has had the unanticipated consequence of tying us to our devices and to our work.
TT focuses on mental health and balance in life. Previous tech has produced a society deprived of sleep, increasingly sedentary, driven to work unconscionable hours and striving for status and wealth rather than more holistic goals. Exhausted, overworked, harried, distracted. Doesn’t sound like a recipe for mental health or for balance.
TT uses objective feedback about ourselves and awareness derived from those statistics to help us along with improving our lives and businesses. In the initial tech phase, data was about machines, money, markets and external statistics (viz Facebook analytics). TT focuses on you and me.
TT demands that we interact with ourselves, hopefully with others, with a new depth of understanding of many of the parameters of human performance which were not quantifiable even in the recent past. The initial tech revolution dis-connected us. TT’s message, if not its promise, is of re-connection.
Is transformative technology a magic bullet? I don’t think so! Be wary of anyone promising that it is! The hype is hype. The reality is that even the best tech of today (let’s see what the future brings…) demands intention, dedication, discipline, time and effort to reap the rewards. Yes, we are using devices and apps and games and lots of really cool programming, but, unlike swooning passively into the arms of Netflix or Facebook, TT actually makes demands upon us in order to live up to its potential.
Are there Tablelanders who are keen to find solutions and haven’t given up on the hope that technology can help lead us out of the jungle that the original IT revolution led us into? It will take some effort. We will have to find some time to work on this. But the outcome might just be worth it if we begin to work and live inflow, to learn better and more efficiently, to stay calm but increase our effectiveness, to be productive without killing ourselves, stressing ourselves out and packing every spare moment of our days with distracted screen time.
Let’s go for focussed screen time, higher awareness through quantification by personal wearable devices, spending a little more time and effort in order to decrease time and effort wasted. It’s time for Transformative Tech to supersede Distraction Tech! We are all in the tech business. It’s time to decide which one!
